We know that the legendary actor Dick van Dyke is a kid at heart, despite being nearly 100 years old. Along with that, many fans are shocked when they find out he’s 99 years old, with many noting that he acts like someone decades younger. And now, he’s revealing a rather shocking secret about his youthfulness: he still goes to the exercises three times a week!
During a recent episode of Cheers alum Ted Danson’s podcast Where Everybody Knows Your Name, he spoke with van Dyke about his physical condition, and he gave him the truth.
“I’m almost 100. This is insane,” he said. “Somebody said, ‘To what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’ I’ve always exercised three days a week. We go to the gym still, and I think that’s why I’m not stove up like my equals.”
So it seems for decades, van Dyke has exercised for three days a week, noting that nowadays, he mostly sticks to things that don’t push him a lot, like stretching, sit-ups, and yoga exercises. Senior Lifestyle even noted that water aerobics, yoga, and stretching are perfect exercises to help 90-year-olds feel good.
This also checks out since we’ve seen people snap photos of him and his wife, Arlene Silvers, leaving gyms over the years.
In fact, Danson even said in the podcast that he’s seen van Dyke exercise hard firsthand. “I would go to the same gym you did, and if I got there early enough, I would see you literally work out on some weight machine,” he said. “And then, almost like you were doing circuit training, you would not walk to the next machine, you’d dance. You literally danced to the next machine.” (That checks out, to be honest.)
